The collection consists mainly of the research materials Kofalk collected to write No Woman Tenderfoot, including copies of Bailey's correspondence, articles, notes, newspaper clippings, and drafts of the book. The collection also contains an animal trap and three audio cassette tapes of Kofalk speaking about Florence Bailey.

Florence Merriam Bailey (1863-1948) was born in Locust Grove, New York during the Civil War. She devoted her life to the study and protection of birds. From her work in ornithology she authored over ten books, including several field guides to birds, and close to one hundred articles. Though interested in birds as a child, she gained recognition as a naturalist while at Smith College. Vernon Orlando Bailey (1864-1942) was born 21 June 1864 in Manchester, Michigan. He was the sixth of eight children born to Hiram and Emily (Taylor) Bailey. At an early age he and his family moved to Elk River, Minnesota, where he developed an interest in natural history. Harriet Kofalk (1937-1996) was a writer, poet, and historical researcher who wrote poems, articles, papers and books about nature. She worked for RAND Corporation for several years as the Administrator of Publications and engaged in freelance writing and historical research on her own.
